Makes 24-30


Ingredients:

1 cup (115g) plain flour
pinch salt
½ tsp curry powder
¼ cup (55g) butter
½ cup (55g) grated Cheddar cheese
1 egg, beaten
poppy and cumin seeds, to finish


Method:

  • Sift flour, salt and curry powder into a bowl. Rub in butter until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add cheese and half the egg and mix to form a dough. Cover and chill for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Butter several baking sheets. Roll out dough on a floured surface to 0.5cm thickness. Cut into 7.5x1cm strips. Twist and place on baking sheets.
  • Brush straws with remaining egg. Sprinkle half the straws with poppy seeds and half with cumin seeds. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes until golden.
