Ingredients:
300g topside beef or round steak, cut into 2 pieces
2 medium sized tomatoes, slice thinly
grind to a fine paste:
1 slice (2.5cm) ginger
4 cloves garlic
8 dried chillies, soak to soften
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp cumin powder
½ tsp white pepper powder
1 tbsp plain yoghurt
1 cup water
2 tsp tomato puree, mix with a little water
6 tbsp oil
salt to taste
for frying:
1 small onion, slice thinly
1 stick (3cm) cinnamon
3 cloves
3 cardamoms
2 tbsp cooked peas
Method:
- In a bowl, combine beef with sliced tomatoes, ground ingredients, coriander, cumin and pepper powder, yoghurt and salt.
- Heat oil, add ingredients for frying. Fry till onions are brown then add beef and fry till fragrant. Add water, cover and boil. When meat is tender, add puree, stir and cook for another 10 minutes. Gravy should be of a thick consistency.
- Garnish with cooked green peas.
