Ingredients:

1 cup yellow lentils (dhal), soak for 3 hours, then wash, remove skin and drain
3 cups water
½ onion, slice thick
2 green chillies, slit lengthwise
2 cloves garlic, cut into thick slices
1 stick (3cm) cinnamon
3 cloves

Method:

Combine all the ingredients in a deep pot; stir to mix, then boil till dhal is soft; remove from heat.


For frying:
½ onion, slice finely
1 tsp cumin seeds, grind coarsely
3 dried chillies, break each into 3 pieces
2 tbsp ghee

Method:

Heat ghee, then fry the above ingredients till fragrant and onions brown; pour ghee and fried ingredients immediately into cooked dhal, cover the pot for a minute then serve.
